Blessings continue to rain upon our school.
Last week our school was the recipient of a donation in the amount of $200,000. Displaying pure humility, the donor respectfully wishes to remain anonymous. The vision of the donor is simply to “bring more kids to Christ” by giving them the opportunity to become a student at St. Francis.
The donation is earmarked solely for tuition assistance and will be specific to families that have financial hardships. There will be a committee of three persons to approve requests, as well as determine the amount to be awarded. Scholarship amounts will available up to, but not exceeding $2,500 per student. The plan is for our school to draw approximately $30,000-$40,000 of the accessible scholarship funds yearly. That amount will be spread to as many students as possible. The donor’s intent is to replenish the scholarship awards from time to time. Therefore, the Scholarship Foundation appears to be something that will be long-lasting as opposed to burning out quickly.
This year alone, our school has awarded a combined $98,005 of local (meaning from the school) tuition assistance to our 266 families. We are a premier school in so many ways (facilities, academics, safety, etc.), and having these additional funds available will allow us to better serve the most needy families in the Morgantown community. By having access to these funds we will be in a position to market our school and approach families that are interested in St. Francis, but have not considered it because of their inability to afford it. Our enrollment, excluding two new potential students arriving next week, is very solid at 385. Having these scholarship funds available will, in all likelihood, increase this figure. We are in the midst of a rebirth at St. Francis, and all signs moving toward the school’s next 100 years are positive. It is inspiring to witness the unselfish acts of people in this community. While the donor’s name will remain anonymous, the impact of this donation will be very fruitful to our school’s future.
