Greetings STEM Enthusiasts! 

The Governor’s STEM Initiative, in collaboration with the WV Department of Education and the Arts, the WV Department of Education and The Education Alliance, will host a West Virginia Capitol Building Minecraft Design/Build Contest during the summer of 2016 for West Virginia students. The competition will involve students using Minecraft to either recreate the current West Virginia Capitol Building or create a unique version of a new state capitol building for West Virginia.

West Virginia Capitol Building Minecraft Design/Build Contest

 

Contest Overview

The West Virginia Capitol Building Design/Build Minecraft Contest is open to West Virginia students grades PreK-12, including private school and homeschool students.

Students entering the contest will use Minecraft to:

1.    Create a replica of the current West Virginia Capitol Building, OR

2.    Create a new state capitol building for West Virginia

Register to enter the contest at (http://wvde.state.wv.us/forms/2016/technology/minecraft-contest/) by June 20, 2016. Students must submit their entry by 11:59 pm on July 31, 2016. To submit, students must email a picture or screen shot of their capitol building creation to (minecraft@wvde.state.wv.us) and include “Minecraft Contest Submission” in the email subject line.

 

Contest Prizes

More than $6,000 worth of prizes will be awarded.

Contest winners will be selected in elementary, middle and high school grades.

·  Winners from each grade level (elementary, middle and high school) for creating a replica of the current West Virginia Capitol Building.

·  Winners from each grade (elementary, middle, and high school) for creating a new state capitol building for West Virginia.

Awards will be presented at a special event hosted in fall 2016. All finalists will be contacted and verified prior to announcement of winners. Finalists and winners will be selected based on winner selection criteria.
