Congratulations to both our JV and Varsity boys basketball squads on a tremendous season; wrapping up another Mason-Dixon Championship for both teams. Coach Nick Lusk’s team went unbeaten in conference play (13-0), securing the #1 seed in the tournament. Great job boys; expectations are high for the foreseeable future.

FAIRMONT — No. 1 St.Francis dominated No. 3 Barrackville on the boards to get a 43-19 win and claim the Mason-Dixon championship.

Jack Hudson and Jalen Wimer each had 10 points to lead the Trojans in scoring while Matteo Darmelio had eight, Patrick Griffith had seven and Dean Lusk and Garrett Culten each finished with four points.

St. Francis was 8-of-15 from the free throw line in the win.

Barrackville shot poorly, going 7-of-32 from the floor and was led by Robert Murphy, who had nine points. Chris Phares added four points, Gunner Murphy and Adam Hoffman each had two points and Ethan Darden and Chris Wilson had one point each.

 St.Francis finished unbeaten in conference play this season, going a perfect 13-0 and finishing the year 17-2 overall.

Barrackville finished 10-3 in league play and 13-6 overall.

No. 2 Trinity beat No. 5 Monongah for third place, 53-48.

Trinity was led by Robertson with 19 points and Daniel Woods with 12 points. The Lions were led by Justin Fleming with 17, Chandler Funkhouser 15 and Chaz Colanero with nine points.

Trinity finished 10-3 in Mason-Dixon play this year while Monongah finished 8-5 in the league and 12-5 overall.

In JV action, No. 1 St. Francis beat No. 2 Monongah, 53-31.

The Tojans were led by Luke Bechtel with 17 points and Cal Linn and Nate Fielding with 11 points each. The Lions were led by Coleman Heater who had 17 points. Michael Garrett and Grant Ramsey finished with five each. Monongah finished the year with 10-4 overall record. St.Francis with the win finishes 11-1 on the year.

No. 3 Clay-Battelle beat No. 5 Fairmont Catholic, 34-24 for third place.

Tanner Heannen led the Cee Bees with 12 followed by Mojo Chisler with 10. Gavin Moore had four. Fairmont Catholic was led Clark Craig’s nine points, Angelo Sabatino’s six and Jake Schmidt’s six. Clay-Battelle finishes 7-3 in the Mason-Dixon play.

The Conference also recognized All-Academic teams with the top eight GPAs from each team and the school with the highest GPA per sport recieves a traveling trophy that stays with the school for the year. This years winners  were: Cheerleading: Mannington Middle 4.0; boys’ basketball: Mannington Middle 4.0; and girls’ basketball: Mannington Middle 4.0.
