Announcing the 2022 Advent Show!

We are pleased to announce that plans for the 2022 Advent Show are underway!  The show has been on hold for two long years, so we are beyond excited to bring the stage back to life!  Dates and times for the shows are as follows:  Wednesday, December 14, at 1:00 PM, and Thursday, December 15 at 6:00 PM.  Please mark your calendar and plan to attend one or both shows!

There will be a few changes to the show from previous years as follows:

• First, we will utilize one combined cast of K – 5th grade students for both the afternoon and evening shows (vs. two separate casts who perform two shows each).

• Second, we will utilize understudies for each of the lead roles to ensure that “the show will go on” in the event a lead role has an extenuating circumstance and cannot be present for a show.

• And, lastly, we will present an afternoon show and an evening show for the convenience of our families and friends (vs. two afternoon shows and two evening shows as in the past).

Students in 5th grade will have the opportunity to audition for lead roles. Having a lead role or being an understudy to a lead role is a significant time commitment and may require that students miss classroom time in their core subjects. Students will be expected to work with their classroom teachers to develop a schedule to stay current on what they are learning in the classroom and seek additional one on one help, if needed. Students who are selected for a lead role or as an understudy are expected to attend all rehearsals during the school day and some others that will be scheduled after school hours to ensure students are making the necessary progress in learning lines, songs, and solos.  Students in 4th grade will have the opportunity to audition for some smaller supporting roles. These roles are a little less involved with speaking and solos, but are still important and really help to bring the show to life.

Auditions for lead and supporting roles will take place in the music room on Monday, October 3rd from 3:00-5:30 PM. If students already have prior commitments that evening, the alternative date will be Tuesday, October 4th from 3:00-5:30 PM. Students and parents wishing to utilize this option must notify me in advance. The audition will consist of the following:

• reading from the script of the show

• presenting a brief pantomime to demonstrate acting skills

• singing one of the following songs: “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, or “Happy Birthday”

Auditions will take place in front of me and a panel of other members of our faculty and staff. Results of these auditions will be posted no later than Friday, October 7th.

Students selected for a lead role will receive a contract from me that must be signed by the student and a parent or guardian stating that you both:

• accept the requirements of the role

• take responsibility for attending all rehearsals

• commit to memorizing lines for the role by October 31st
