In an effort to live out the school’s mission, “We are here to serve, not to be served,” the IMG_3062third, fourth, and fifth graders at St. Francis Central Catholic School celebrated Catholic Schools Week by assisting the Scott’s Run Settlement House with their Monongalia County Backpack Program. This program benefits 870 children in the county elementary schools by providing them with essential food items over the weekend.

On Wednesday, January 28, the children of St. Francis packed 870 bags with canned pasta, oatmeal packets, fruit cups, and other filling items. Students loaded up 56 bins filled with the bagged food into cars for delivery to the county schools. It was a great opportunity for the students to actively participate in this community based program. In the words of the children, “We liked it a lot because we knew it was going to feed kids. It made us feel good that we could help them.”
