St. Francis students recently celebrated reading 590,146 minutes in the 2016 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge.

First Lady Joanne Tomblin presented St. Francis with a plaque naming it as the top West Virginia school in this year’s Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge.

St. Francis hosted a ceremony that celebrated the power of summer learning. Afterward, the children that read over 1,000 minutes attended a “What is Your Superpower?” party, where they enjoyed ice cream and games with the First Lady and members of the WVU football and basketball teams. St. Francis also recognized its top four readers — fourth-grader Cookie Bolling, sixth graders Eleni Orphanos and Amelia Summers, and eighth-grader Connor McDonough.
