WelcomeDrBurnford

Tuesday, February 2nd marked a special day in St. Francis de Sales Central Catholic school history. Dr. Thomas Burnford, President of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA); overseeing 6,500 Catholic schools nationwide, made the drive from Washington, DC to visit with our school. Born and raised just outside of London, England, this was Dr. Burnford’s first visit to a school in our Diocese. We felt very fortunate and proud that our school was on display.

After touring the school and visiting with each classroom, Dr. Burnford and Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston Superintendent Dr. Vincent de Paul Schmidt made time to assist in preparing over 400 bagged lunches for the Bartlett House; proving we are all called to serve, not be served.

In a recent interview, Dr. Burnford said about Catholic Schools Week, “The theme, Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service, is the core of Catholic education in the United States. Catholic Schools Week shines a spotlight on educators and our faith communities to celebrate Catholic school education as a great gift to our Church, our parish communities, our neighborhood communities and the nation,”
